Marvin Morford 1941 - 2013

Marvin H. Morford, 72, Belle Fourche, SD died Sunday, October 20, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Marvin was born June 23, 1941 to Ivan and LaVerna (Buchheim) Morford in Highmore, SD. At the age of 17 he went to work for his brother, Dale at the filling station, and at the age of 18, he went to work for the SD Game, Fish and Parks driving heavy equipment. In 1963, he married Gail Peterson in Hot Springs, SD. Also that year, he became the foreman for the Game Fish and Parks, which spanned 38 years. He was also active in the National Guard for 12 years. After he retired, he went to work blading roads for Potterfield Electric, Brian Meredith and Ainsworth Benning. Marvin was always a very kind and loving man, willing to help anyone at any time. He loved to socialize and never met anyone he couldn’t talk to. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to play cards with anyone, for money or not. He was a great friend, father and husband, who will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gail, Belle Fourche; children, Tina Morford, Rapid City, Treese (Shannon) DeBoer, Hot Springs, Todd Morford, Longmont, CO, Kelley Jenkins, Okeechobee, FL; grandchildren, Caleb Morford, Trace, Carlie, Taylen DeBoer, and Hayden and Gracie Morford; sisters, Marlys (Jerauld) Salathe, Janet (Ronald) Rivenes and Janice (Donald) Ortmeier; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan Morford and LaVerna Kutz; step-father, Carl Kutz; siblings, Dale Morford, Dean Morford, Winnie Kopecky and Lois Hammel. Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Belle Fourche Area Community Center Theater in Belle Fourche with Pastor Paul Howard officiating. Inurnment will follow at Pine Slope Cemetery. Memorials have been established to benefit the Belle Fourche Food Pantry and the Rainbow Bible Ranch.
