John E. Gapp, 88, Piedmont, died Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.
John was born July 12, 1926, in Elm Springs, SD to Otto and Anna (Leonard) Gapp. He joined the US Navy from 1951 to 1954, serving during the Korean conflict. In the mid 1960’s John partnered with his brother Bob Gapp in Sturgis Meat Service. They worked together until Bob’s retirement in the mid 1980’s. John continued to run the business until his retirement in 2000.
John is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gapp; three sons, Duane Grenz, Bill Grenz, and Ronald Gapp; one daughter, Patty Pottorff; 12 Grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Anna Gapp; three children, Jimmy, Tommy and Patty Ann; three sisters, Lola, Jean and Esther; and one brother, Robert.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm until 7:00 pm Monday December 29, 2014 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday December 30, 2014 at the Open Bible Christian Center in Rapid City with Pastor Les Potts officiating. Burial at Mt. View Cemetery in Rapid City will follow after the services.
