Linda Gail Chowen was born October 15, 1943, in London Ontario, Canada to June Madeline (Abel) and Robert Wayne Chowen. Linda, along with her brother, Dennis, came to the USA in the winter of 1948 and made their home with Ma (Bernice) and Dad (Charles) Grant. Linda attended grade school at Empire, just East of Vale, and attended Vale High School.
Linda married Earl Jr. Remington on October 19, 1961, in the Vale Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. They moved to Red Owl where they made their home. Their children, Barb, was born November 13, 1962, and Craig, March 10, 1966. In 1962, they moved to Spearfish for work and returned to Red Owl in 1963. In 1970, they bought a farm near Vale and helped run a dairy farm with her parents. In 1983, they began and ran their own dairy farm until they sold it in 2001 and retired to the town of Vale.
Linda’s lifetime accomplishments included: being baptized in 1948; becoming a US Citizen in 1970; obtaining her GED in 1974.
Linda, 74, Vale, died Thursday, November 9, 2017, at her home in Vale.
She is survived by her husband, Earl; her children; daughter, Barbara (Bud) Ray, and son, Craig (Teresa) Remington; her brother, Dennis (Roxie) Chowen; her grandchildren, Michael Ray, Tyler Remington, Sumer (Blake) Hogan, and Hannah Cline; her great-grandchildren, Autumn and Jaxon Hogan; her birth-father, Bob Chowen, and his children, Melvin, Wayne, and Brenda Chowen; her sisters, Patti Hill and Bonnie (Geoff) Ryerson, and Fred Hill; and numerous nieces and nephews and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Charles Grant; nephew, Rick Michaels; her birth mother, June Park; and sister, Bonnie Chowen.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis. Burial will follow at the Vale Cemetery.
A memorial has been established to Rainbow Bible Ranch.
