Ray Shellito 1942 - 2014

Ray A. Shellito, 71, of Tolstoy passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Faulkton Area Medical Center from cancer.
 

Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Tolstoy Wesleyan Church, Tolstoy, SD and at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 29, 2014 at The Little White Church, Hill City, SD.
 

Ray Alex Shellito was born on September 17, 1942 to Alexander and Dorris (Jensen) Shellito. He was raised at Cube Table, north of Scenic, SD. As he was growing up, he raised and showed registered Herefords. Ray graduated from Rapid City Central High School; where he was FFA Chapter president.
 

Throughout the years Ray has served for the Scenic Volunteer Fire Dept, the Army National Guard at Camp Rapid, as a Police Officer for Rapid City Police Dept, and later as Reserve Deputy for Pennington County. Ray worked for South Dakota Department of Transportation for 32 years until retirement in 2004. He then moved from Hill City to Tolstoy SD, where he was elected as a Potter County commissioner where he served until he resigned his position due to his illness.
 

Ray was a member of the Scenic Congregational Church, Little White Church of Hill City, and Tolstoy Wesleyan Church.
 

Ray is survived by his wife, Gwen; sons: Michael (Angel), Sean and Ryan; daughter, Kristie (Shane) Lyon; brother, Gale (Margie) Shellito; grandchildren: Chet, Frankie and Cody Smith and Maycee Shellito; and two nephews.
 

Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Dorris and father, Alex.


In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Rainbow Bible Ranch, 14676 Lonetree Rd, Sturgis, SD 57785, for restoration and storm repairs.
